Julia Cohen (USA) and Bojana Jovanovski (Serbia) faced at the final of WTA series tournament held already for the second time in Baku.
Both players fought hard as this was the first final in the carriers. Within 48 minutes long first set world 97th rocket and Baku tournament`s fifth seed Bojana Jovanovski defeated the opponent 6-3.
Early in the second Jovanovski broke twice and elevated the dominance, which resulted in 4-0 lead. Despite multiple attempts, Cohen was not able to change the course of the game and could only win one game in the second set, still losing the set to the Serbian player.
Thus, by winning the second set 6-1 and scoring 2:0 in the match Bojana Jovanovski became the champion of "Baku Cup 2012".
It worth to mention, that Bojana Jovanovski will get 280 rating points and 37,000 USD as the money award. Tournament`s second Julia Cohen will get 200 rating points and 19,000 USD.
Due to the points gained, Jovanovski might raise in the ranking up from 97th to 65th, while Cohen might advance 134th to 94th.
At the awarding ceremony Deputy Minister of youth and sports Intigam Babayev congratulated the winner and all of the players, as well as highlighted the importance of this tournament for tennis fans. In addition, general secretary of Azerbaijan Tennis Federation Intigam Gouliyev, tournament`s director Leila Meskhi made closing remarks and wished further successes to the winners.
Finalists Jovanovski and Cohen also shared their happiness and pleasure of Baku Cup tournament, as well as thanked all of the sponsors and organizers. The main sponsors of the tournament are Pasha Bank and SOCAR.
